20 Apr

shapesGood morning friends! Here is a recent photo from my instagram. I am working on a new project that I am really excited about, and I thought I would show you a little sneak peek of it. This is just a tiny glimpse of the project but once it is completed I will share all the details so check back soon!

Happy Monday!

Christmas Card Design

7 Jan

holly christmas '14_1

Today I wanted to share the Christmas card I designed for my sister.  She really wanted me to design their card so we got a major head start, and designed it before Ruby got here.  She wanted to incorporate an update on her and her husband’s life so we made a top six list on the back.

holly christmas '14_2Holly always give me free reign on the design so I decided to keep it modern and stay away from the traditional Christmas card look.  I am really happy with how it turned out. I had so much fun designing this and wish I would have had time to do more!

last days of summer

2 Sep

summer_icecreamcone I designed this illustration a little while back and I thought I would share it today.  Doesn’t it seem like the seasons change so quickly?!  Jonathan and I keep trying to decided when summer is actually over, and although we are starting to see signs of fall, we just aren’t quite ready to let summer go.  So we are choosing to believe these are the last days of summer and are soaking up as much of the warm weather as possible!  Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Recent Project + Happy Friday

21 Feb

invite_6Good morning friends!  And, happy Friday!  I can’t tell you how much I am looking forward to the weekend!  One reason I am especially excited is because of a recent discover I made.  I don’t know if any of you have heard of the Milwaukee Domes, but they are seriously fabulous.  They are these three huge domes and inside each one is a different conservatory climate: tropical, desert, and rotating dome.  This winter my favorite is the tropical dome because it feel so tropical.  When you walk inside you are instantly transported to a warm, tropical land where birds are chirping and there is beautiful plant life everywhere. I have know about the domes for awhile but my recent discovery is that they host a winter farmers market every Saturday and admission is free!  Tomorrow I plan to get there right when it opens, buy some coffee and sit in the tropical dome and read.  I am so excited!

Today I also wanted to share with you a recent project I have been working on.  The above image is a baby shower invite I designed for a friend.  It is a co-ed shower so we wanted to keep it simple and incorporate neutral tones.  Here is the final product.

Have a great weekend!

Portfolio + New Work

9 Sep

MichelePasma_StoryIllustration_compressedHello!  And, happy Monday!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  Jonathan and I went for a really long walk on this beautiful trail near downtown Milwaukee on Saturday evening.  Then we ended the night at this small, candlelit restaurant where we ordered tasty drinks and played chess.  It was a magical night.

As I said last week, I have a lot of exciting news to share with you!  Today I decided I would start by sharing with you my new online portfolio!  Last year in school I was required to design a hard copy of my portfolio but not a version that would be put online.  So, I decided to take on the task of putting together my online version so that it would be more accessible.  You can view my new portfolio by clicking the new portfolio tab at the top right of my blog or you can click here.

I also wanted to highlight the above image.  This is a fun project I worked on last year that I never got the chance to show you.  The project was to design an illustration that corresponded with a specific piece of text.  I decided to illustrate a map of Paris.  To view the illustration larger you can click on the image.  You can also find this project in my portfolio.

Artifact Uprising

Good morning dear friends!  How was your weekend?  We were busy doing household projects over here.  We did a lot of painting as well as worked on some DIY projects.  I am excited to share them with you soon!   We also had our neighbors over for drinks on Friday night, and it was a blast!  It is really nice to start settling in to our life here in Milwaukee.  People have been so welcoming which has made for a smooth transition.

Today I wanted to share with you an Instagram Book I made for Jonathan through a fabulous company called Artifact Uprising.  I wanted to surprise him with a book of all our fun memories from the last year.  It was a crazy, yet memorable year, and I wanted to have something to remember it by.  I was excited to try Artifact Uprising because I had read a lot of good things about them, and they have a wonderful, easy-to-use website.  They make beautiful, well-made products.  And, I love their simply, clean design!  I would highly recommend them to anyone!  Here are a few pictures from my book!

Announcing…

3 Jun

LK Announcement Banner

Hello!  Today is a big day!  I finally get to check off a major goal from my January goal list!  I am so excited to announce to you all that I have finally chosen a new name for my blog! And, along with my new name I have created and designed a new website/blog.  This is something I have wanted to do for a long time but was intimidated by the idea of setting up a new URL and committing to a more permanent name.  But, I have finally taken the plunge so I present to you, lavenderkay.com!

I chose the name, Lavender Kay, because Kay is a very special name to me as it was my mother’s middle name, and I just like lavender.  This project has been a labor of love, and I have spent a lot of time getting it ready.  I am still working out all the bugs, and plan to make many more changes as time goes on, but I couldn’t wait any longer to show you my new site!

really wanted to make it so that you didn’t have to re-subscribe to the new site, but I haven’t gotten that part figured out so if you don’t mind, I would love it if you re-subscribed to my blog at lavenderkay.com.  I would be sooo sad to loose any of you as followers, and would be honored if you just took 30 seconds to re-subscribe!  I also wanted to say thank you to you all for following along with me on the exciting journey!  I have loved reading your comments, and can’t wait to share so much more on my new site!

To celebrate my new blog, I have put together a new post on lavender kay that I have been wanting to share with you for a long time.  I worked on a really fun branding project that I would love for you to check out so stay tuned!

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday! What are your weekend plans?  Jonathan and I have a big (and exciting!) decision to make over the weekend.  Our big move to Milwaukee is getting closer and closer, leaving us with lots of future planning and decision making.  Hopefully I can share details soon!

I have also been working on some really fun design projects lately.  And, today I’m extra excited because I just picked up some beautiful prints from the print shop for one of the projects!  I will be packaging up some pretty paper to drop in the mail today!  I will share this fun project with you as soon as I can!

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Ps. I posted the above picture because it reminds me so much of Oregon!  Jonathan and I love going on a hike near house that looks just like this!  Especially the misty sky!

Art Work Preview

18 Mar

Hi friends!  Happy Monday!   What did you do over the weekend?  My final drawing is due tomorrow so I worked on that ALL weekend.  The project is to draw 3 thematically related compositions, and you have to spend at least 20 hours on them.  I am very excited about how my project turned out so I thought I would give you a little preview.  The design below is a part of my final project.  I drew one of my wedding pictures in black pen, and it was so fun!

Illustrator Self Portrait

20 Feb

Hi friends!  I am really sorry that I have been MIA lately!  School has been really crazy and it has forced me to take a few days off of blogging.  For the next few weeks there may be less posts throughout the week, but I promise I am still here and I hope to get back to full time posts soon!  Thank you for following me along the way, this journey has been amazing!

In the mean time I wanted to leave you with a project I have been working on.  I was assigned a project where I had to draw a self portrait in Illustrator, and here is what I made.  I plan to re-work it again before it goes into my portfolio, but here is what I have so far.
